driving from Munich to Zell am See
We have to drive from Munich to Zell am See in the evening and will not be interested in sightseeing ( Dark ). What is the easiest route to take.
Should we continue on the motorway past Salzburg or should we turn off before then ( would appear to be less motorway, more mountain if we turn before Salzburg ).
We don't mind and extra 20-30 miles if it means more safer motorway.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd take the A8 southeast out of Munich toward Salzburg. A8 becomes A10-E55 in Austria. Continue south on A10-E55 until you get to the exit on highway 311. Signs at the exit should mention St. Johann im Pongau and (if I recall correctly) will also mention Zell am See. Continue on this highway and follow signs to Zell am See. Once off the autobahn, you will be able to see signs and the highway 311 will continue all the way to Zell am See. At most, you will have about an hour of driving off the autobahn. Some parts of 311 are also 4-lane and pretty nice to drive on. It's all a very good highway. Good luck.
