when you are on a really narrow road and see a car coming the other direction, pull over at the widest sliver of road right there and then and flash your lights to tell the other driver you are giving way. >>

dkd - I don't know Lamorna Lodge but it looks very nice. it's very close to the Carbis Bay railway station so you'll be able to get the train to St Ives which is a bonus as parking there can be a nightmare and as for the roads - well, it has a very strange one-way system which is best avoided. There are some very nice restaurants in St Ives which I'm sure you'll enjoy and the restaurant in the Carbis Bay hotel is pretty good too - we had a meal there a few months ago.

I'm familiar with the area having stayed a week at Thurlestone Guest House on the main road above Lamorna Lodge. It's quite a hill there and I walked down to the train, then back up for a day trip. Yes, you can use the train into St. Ives but you can also walk, not terribly far on the SW Coast Path (shown here: http://tinyurl.com/h94ff3s), not difficult and very pleasant, along the beach and through neighborhoods you wouldn't otherwise see. I recommend doing it at least once. Then, to return and to save yourself the climb back up to your GH, take the level main road (A3074) which leaves St. Ives just above the train station in town. You'll arrive above Lamorna Lodge and can walk to it downhill on Boskerris Rd.
At the intersection of Boskerris Rd. and the A3074, just above your accommodation, there's a bus stop for the local bus that does a circular route to St. Ives to Penzance through villages and the countryside and is just plain fun. Then on the return from Penzance you'll continue on the same direction for new views and be deposited again just above your guest house. A very entertaining break, if you're inclined, from driving.
