I used to use the Shell Geostar website to figure out driving directions/distances between towns in Europe. That site is closed and refers me to viamichelin.com. My problem is that I can't figure out how to use the michelin site.

For example, if I just want to know how long it will take me to drive from Kinsale Ireland to Castlegregory, Kerry, the site asks for adresses and postcodes which I don't know. It seems to be very difficult to get info unless I have fairly precise information about the starting and ending points.

Can anyone suggest a better, more user friendly site? Thanks.

I've been using Mapquest. (www.mapquest.com) Go under "Driving Directions" on the home page and then highlight Europe.

It is not necessary , on viamichelin, to put in everything. The important thing is not to forget to add the country.
Just go to drving direction, departure city, country, arrival city, country and click result. I got 96 miles

jody is correct--you don't have to put addresses in at viamichelin.com.

On the Michelin site, do people recommend using the "michelin recommended" directions, or one of the other choices? I'm using this for my trip in September to Ireland.

It depends on what you are after. If you need to get somewhere quickly, use the quickest route option. Otherwise, stick with Michelin recommended.

If you want to make stops not on the recommended route, then you need to include those stops in your map request so you get the entire route you'll actually be taking.

I find the ViaMicheline site to be the best of those that I've tried, partly for the cost estimate and stopover functions, but mainly for the excellent quality of the maps (what else would you expect from Michelin!). You can highlight and zoom in very precisely on specific areas, print out detailed or less detailed maps of different stages of the journey... I use the site to plan trips whenever we are driving anywhere out of town!
