Drive Times in Provence and the Riviera

Hi! I have been reading this board and searching many of the message threads. I have learned so much from so many of you and I want to thank you all for your input.

Can anyone give me an idea of the driving time (not distance) from Nice to Aix? Nice to St. Remy? Aix to St. Remy?

And from St. Remy, driving times to Pont du Gard, Gordes, Roussillon, Isle sur la Sorgue and Vaison la Romaine?

Thank you so much.

Go to www.viamichelin.com put in each of your driving itineraries and you'll get the info you're looking for. Also try www.mappy.com

Thank you! Will they give me more than km or miles? I wanted to find out from people who post on this board who have actually driven it what their experiences have been? We are considering so many different options in Provence and we don't have the time or the inclination to get it all in. There's always the next trip. But I am trying to figure out whether I should even consider towns that seem on the map to be pretty far apart (i.e., Nice to St. Remy or Vaison).

If any of you have done any of these drives and can give me a good idea of the time it took to get there, thanks!

While I can't help, I think you should indicate what time of year you're going. Traffic in summertime is different.

Redwolf:

My wife and I drove from St. Remy to Nice (actually Eze, east of Nice) at the end of May. We first swung down to St. Tropez and spent a couple hours there. With the traffic to get to St. Tropez and back out to the A8, I would guess the driving time was around 4 hours. St,. Remy to Aix is probably an 1 1/2 hour drive and driving directly to Nice from St. Remy probably would have been a little more than 3 hours. I hope this helps.

Thanks Steve. Your answer gives me a good idea at least even it is an approximation.

Hi redwolf,

Here's what I remember from driving to the places you mention. Traffic conditions would be light to moderate:

Aix to Antibes (not far from Nice) - 3 hours on the N7 and I don't drive fast. It would take less time on the autoroute.

Aix to Avignon would be an hour so slightly less to St-Remy.

St-Remy to Pont du Gard - 30 to 45 minutes.

St-Remy to Roussillon about 30 minutes. To Gordes would be about the same. If you go to Gordes (which didn't thrill me) be sure to go to Senaque Abbey, just up the road from Gordes. Fabulous abbey.

St-Remy to Vaison. I went to Vaison from Apt but it's about the same distance from St-Remy. I believe the trip took 1.5 hours.

Have a great time. This is a fabulous area.

Adrienne -- Your answer was most helpful. I had guessed at some of these. I was concerned that Vaison la Romaine might be a bit too far and your answer has proved me right. Either Nice and environs comes out of the equation or Vaison. We simply don't have the time to do it all, nor are we inclined to. I will now have the difficult task of coming up with a nice leisurely itinerary. And to complicate things further, we are also considering touring around Florence with either Umbria or Tuscany or possibly even Venice! I've been to Nice, Florence and Venice, but never to the countryside. So this will be a delightful trip once we ultimately decide where we are going. We are most likely going in September, but there is a chance we will move it up to the very end of August. I am assuming though that even in September, these areas will be crowded and brimming with traffic.

Anyway, thank you once again. Your answers were really very helpful.
