Heathrow to Harwich

We arrive at Heathrow the day before a cruise and need to get to Harwich the next day. We were told we can get a transfer bus from our cruiseline at Victora Coach Station.
Can anyone please tell me what area of London
this station is located and where we can get
a hotel not far from there.

Bobbie,

I had this problem a few years ago too. We however spent a few days in London before the cruise. Anyhow, we were able to take a train from Victoria Station to Harwich. It was a lot less expensive than taking the cruise bus to the port. It only took about two or two and a half hours, if my memory serves correctly. I will double check if you would like, drop me an e-mail and I will respond tomorrow. We enjoy doing things on our own, so any chance we get we would rather take Britrail or the mode of transportation.

Just curious, what cruise are you taking?

Dawn..

I think your memory may be playing tricks here, as there are no direct trains from Victoria to Harwich. The departure station is London, Liverpool Street. Perhaps you took the tube there from Victoria first. Sorry Bobbie, but I can't help with hotels at Victoria, although I think there was a post quite recently recommending a hotel adjacent to the station.
There are trains from Liverpool Street at 30 minutes past each hour to Harwich International, with a journey time of 90 minutes. You could stay anywhere in central London, and catch the tube to Liverpool St.which is just East of the city centre.

Tony, Excuse me for making a mistake. If my entire post was read.., you would have seen that I was going to double check later that night and then reply to Bobbie later today. And in fact, I was incorrect. We took the underground from Victoria to Liverpool Street, which you indicated Tony, and then from there took a train (I do not remember which one) to Harwich. This drop us across the street from the boat., if memory serves correctly, and Tony don't jump down my throat if it is not a across a street, but across a parking lot or something. We all are afterall human and do make mistakes sometimes, and although I'm sure some people are more travelled and experienced in train travel in Europe, I wanted to let Bobbie know that there are other altenatives that may be cheaper as well as more adventurous than taking the cruise lines bus to the port.

Bobbie, I would still love to know which cruise you are going on.., I too am looking into a cruise and would love to know if you have had any other cruise experiences.

Wow, I didn't even ask the question but found my answer. I am taking an RCCL cruise in July and am glad to see getting to Harwich by train doesn't seem to be too difficult. Any thoughts or comments regarding getting from Harwich to Heathrow? I plan on arriving in England a couple of day prior to the cruise so I'm not too worried about making it to the boat on time. Returning to Heathrow is another problem. The boat docks at 7:00 and my flight is at 2:30, assuming we get off the boat by 10:00... do you think we'll have enough time to get to Heathrow?

Rick-

We are considering a RCCL cruise from Harwich to Boston in September. After you return from your trip, please let me know your experience with transportation from Heathrow to Harwich. Thanks so much.
