Drive times in Ireland
I posted a message on here last week, and you were all so helpful that now I have another question! I can't seem to find a source to tell me how long it will take to get from place to place in Ireland. I doubt it is like zipping around on US freeways. I would like to get some idea how long it would take to drive to and from the following places:

Dublin to Cork
Cork to Doolin
Doolin to Galway
Galway to Clifden
Galway to Dublin

Thanks very much for your continued help!

I believe that the citation above refers to www.theaa.co.uk - - other choices would include www.viamichelin.com or www.mappy.com

Sorry I can't cite any personal experience of the accuracy of one over another. My only driving experience in dublin was in and around the city of Dublin itself.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
I would use an estimate of 1km= 1 minute or 2 mins/mile. From a detailed Ireland map I have that has a chart:
Dub to Cork: 155 miles
Cork to Doolin: 105 mi.
Doolin to Galway: 30 mi.
Gal to Clif: 50 m.
Gal to Dub: 135 m.

Hope it helps!
hljilaw: Driving times are pretty hard to judge in Ireland as the time of day, weather, traffic driving style and sheep can play a role. Irishescaper's rule of thumb is pretty good, but you will normally average much better time from Cork to Dublin that you will on any of the other legs. The slowest average will probably be Doolin to Galway, though Galway to Clifden won't be real quick either. I'm pretty sure Doolin to Galway is a bit over 30 miles and I would figure well over an hour, probably 1.5 at least and you may want to stop a bit. It also depends if you take the short route through the Burren or take the coast road.

Bill

I have used viamichelin.com and it seems to me, if you add about 25% to their driving times, you'll be close.

Hello by the guides I think it will take 3 1/2 hours from Shannon to Clifden is that right? I am wondering how long to spend in Galway, what is there to see?

We are also on a driving trip, from Shannon to Clifden then up the Coast, and down to Doolin.

Have fun.

From Experience cork to Dublin is the longest drive depending where you go in Cork as well. Here are my estimates:

Dublin-Cork 5-6 hours depending on where your destination is in Cork.

Cork to Doolin (?)
Doolin -Galway (?) Never done this route!
Galway to Clifton 1 1/2-2hrs (I love the drive!)
Galway - Dublin 4 hours

These have been my experiences living here and always take into account a place like cork city will have a rush hour in the AM and PM.
