Drive or Fly in Turkey? How about Troy?

In June/July, we'll make our first trip (16 days) to Turkey. After a few days in Istanbul, we'll fly to Izmir or Bodrum, rent a car to see Ephesus area down to Kas. We'll end in Cappodocia and fly back to Istanbul. My first question is, are we better off flying from Antalya to Kayseri or is it an ok drive and about how long? My second question is, I'd like to see Troy, too. Best way to get there/fit it in? Thanks!

If you want to see Troy, which is near Canakkale, from Istanbul you can either take an air-conditioned bus or rent a car to Canakkale. From Canakkale you can then drive or bus the rest of the way to Selcuk, which is next to Ephesus. If you take the bus it means transferring to another bus in Izmir. Bodrum is way to far south to be convenient to Ephesus.

ViaMichelin gives the fast itinerary from Kas to Kayseri through Ankara. But it probably could be done through Konya. Their total time for the trip is 14.5 hours. So count on two days to get to Cappadocia. Our nine day trip in that area from Izmir to Cappadocia covered Ephesus, Aphrodiasias, Pamukkale and Cappadocia.

Michael probably via michelin is the last source one needs to use as for Turkey concerned. Kas to Kayseri via Ankara !!!! Like Moscow to Newyork via Osaka....

NickiM, there are no direct flights from Antalya to Kayseri but only via Istanbul. Driving is fine and easy takes little over 7 hours.

There are 3 times weekly flights Istanbul - Canakkale and can save you time for Canakkale travel to see Troy.

Happy travelling,
Murat

It's 550km from Antalya to Cappadocia (over 700km from Kas), best to stop for the night - Egirdir or Konya.
