CC: Thanks so much for posting that article. I just heard P. Wells yesterday on the radio, promoting her new book. It sounds as if it will be one to own! I will get my map out later and do some further plotting! Have you settled on anyplace great to eat in or around Albi?

Hi ek,

>Also, I do not want to eat in the town of Sarlat. I was looking for a fabulous country restaurant somewhere close to the route.<

Le Maynardie in Paulin, about 20 min off your route.

We had dinner there with Stu Dudley.

See my trip report:

Thanks, Ira. Le Meynardie, which I believe is owned by the same family as Bistro d L"Octroi in Sarlat, was recommended to me by a food professional in the area when I was there last fall.

I, or rather my friend who will be at the wheel, would probably prefer not to drive 40 minutes out of her way to get there, however, and as I recall, it seems to be a bit difficult to find.

If you went from Périgueux to Sarlat by way of Montignac you could lunch at La Table du Terroir in La Chapelle-Aubareil,just outside Montignac. One of my favorites.

St Cirq: That sounds like a goodo possibility. I thought Montignac was so beautiful I wished I had had more time to explore. And if the place is one of your favorites, I consider that to be a good recommendation. And to sample confit de canard again....I never imagined I would be driving through here so soon after my last visit!

After lunch, we could then drive to the main N-S highway linkup at Brive, thus skipping Sarlat.

One small detail I may have forgotten to mention is that my friend is a vegetarian. She does eat cheese and eggs, however, so I would guess they could rustle up something for her at any of these in-contention restaurants.

I see that continuing on samller roads via Sarlat, Grolejac and Gourdon might be an even better option; as I remember that route offers some pretty scenery south of Sarlat....

Well, there's the Hostellerie de la Bouriane, a real treasure, in Gourdon.

I am almost laughing now! I can see myself driving from meal to meal and never making it as far as Albi!!

Which one of these do you think I should aim for?? (Points go for ease of access and deliciousness of food; outdoor dining a plus but not necessary; great confit a definite plus...)

Well, I think you've got enough options now that you can just go to the one that nearest you when the hunger pains strike!

And if the hunger pains should strike more than once, I will be prepared, with these suggestions!

Thank you very much for all of your help.

Well it seems that we are not actually staying in Albi but in a small village named Monesties....if anyone has restaurant recommendations close by I would love to read them. Thanks.
