In most European countries, 18 is the legal drinking age. But anyone 16 and up usually doesn't have any trouble unless he looks REALLY young.

In Switzerland, legal age for drinking alcool up to 15° (beerk, wine) is 16, stronger alcool 18.

In Germany, it's the same as in Switzerland. This applies for people going to pubs on their own. I'm not aware of a legal age for teenagers while in company of a legal guardian.

Not sure about other countries, but I know that in Germany, while the drinking age is 18, many clubs and bars set their own age limits, depending on the crowd they're seeking. Ireland does the same thing.
