Dress code at Castle Schonburg

We will be staying at Schonburg for 2 nights this summer, and have dinner reservations for one of the nights. We were planning on packing light for the trip, are a pair of capri pants and t-shirt acceptable for dinner, or do you need to dress up a little?
Thanks.

Mary, I am guessing you are meaning the Schonburg castle on the Rhine River, yes? If so, your attire should be fine. If it is in the summer, it may be a muggy evening anyway. They are used to American tourists there. Love that castle, so romantic. I've always recommended it to others. Are you traveling to Germany or live there already? Just asking since I know of another "Mary" over there. Have a great time. Don't miss the Rhine River cruises, the Marksburg Castle tour with lunch on their terrace (great jager schnitzel), and Ruddesheim (sp?). You can sample wines free in Ruddesheim in their shops, so don't worry about paying for a high priced tour from the hotel through the vineyards unless that is really what you want. Have a great trip.

I respectfully disagree with Debbie. I think if you go to dinner in their dining room (which is excellent, by the way) in capri's and t-shirt, you will definately be underdressed. Unless as a guy, I don't understand what "t-shirt" means. Last spring, I wore a coat and tie, and was not alone. Though there were other tourists with dockers and golf shirts. We kind of thought of the castle as a special place, not just another hotel, so we dressed up a little.
Just my thoughts trying to help.

Bill you are probably right about the restaurant being a nicer place to dress for. I am being polite with my response, meaning she most likely won't be asked to leave. When I read "capri pants" I thought about the many local women who wear them. For dining out, a German woman might easily be dressed in capri's, a sleeveless nice camisole type of blouse with a cotton or rayon jacket along with some type of heel and jewelry to accent. Mary, the Marksburg castle will certainly be appropriate for your attire for dining there. It is casual. May I also mention another beautiful restaurant along the Rhine to visit? It's the Schloss Johannisberg down from Ruddesheim. We used to cross the Rhine by ferry and go there for many Sunday lunches and early evenings overlooking the Rhine vineyards. It is a monastery turned winery and is gorgeous with summer concerts offered on the grounds as well. Anyway, have a great trip.

Thanks for the information. It was my feeling that we would want to take something nicer to wear to dinner. I will be packing a skirt for myself. My husband will have dress/casual pants. I was really asking form my daughter. She is 10 years old and would not normally travel with a skirt. The dressest pants she is taking is a pair of capri pants. We can dress it up with a nice blouse. Otherwise, we will be packing a skirt for her,for that one dinner. We are trying to keep things as light as possible, for packing.
In response to Debbie's question, I'm in Canada, so not the Mary you are thinking of. Thanks for the information and the other great places to dine and visit.
Mary
