We are in the planning process of the first half of a summer trip with our three kids (ages 8,13,15). We thought we had settled on Switzerland...but have done an abrupt 180 and we are back to Sicily. What appeals is firstly it's in ITALY (our fave) and it will offer contrasts to the other areas we have been (Puglia, Tuscany, Amalfi, Rome, Venice). We are also really keen to explore the beaches and possibly islands easily reached as well as possibly some short walks/hikes. I KNOW it wil be hot but we survived - and loved - Rome in July so we will be ok. We aren't much for the typical tourist spots but prefer to explore nature and small towns. Where should we look as a home base for a week-10 days? We are hoping to rent a private house or stay in an agriturismo with a kitchen. MAX budget is 400Euro/day. We will rent a car. We are following this with a few days in Florence and then a week in Marche. Many thanks!
