Douro Valley help needed!

We have a late October trip planned to Portugal that is pretty much set except for the 3 nights we want to spend in the Douro Valley. We will not have a car as we’re using public transportation and private drivers. We enjoy walking, dining, wine, great scenery and of course we would love a nice view of the river. Ideally, we would hope to be able to get to restaurants on foot from our hotel. Two towns we are considering are Pinhao and Peso da Regua. This is our first trip to Portugal so obviously there may be different and better choices for this. We’re set on staying the 3 nights in the valley and would greatly appreciate the suggestions, recommendations, etc from those who have been there. Thanks!

Pinhão ime is a better option than Régua in terms of wineries, dining, scenery. Look at the Quinta de la Rosa or the Visconde de Chanceleiros for lodging, which are close by or in Pinhão, the Vintage House.
