Sounds like a fun adventure! I would suggest getting a Europe travel guide and take a look at all of the great places to visit. That should help you make some decisions about possible places to spend time. For a first time Europe traveler, you might want to check out Rick Steves books. I think he has good info for an inexperienced traveler. Also, check your library to see if they have any of his videos - or any Europe travel videos - take a look at those and you should get some ideas. You might also want to take a look at his book "Europe 101" for some additional information about the history of Europe.


If you're traveling by train, I'd suggest checking out Rick Steves website, he has some great info about train travel - and you can buy your pass from the site.

25 days sounds like a long time, but when you break it down, you lose at least a half day when you move from one location to another. Even with your plan of "no itineary", you might want to work out some logistics to save yourself from backtracking.

Also, I fly into one city and out of another so you don't have to loop back. One other piece of advice, I would book hotels in your first destination and your last night. You know which cities these are and having that planned is one less worry.

I think a lot of us envy you. It would be wonderful to have one month to wander through Europe.

There are lots of good suggestions but as I read I thought of what Momliz wrote. Don't overlook staying in smaller cities and visiting the larger ones by train. For exmaple, London is very expensive and you might find it more economical to stay in a nearby town.

Prague is beautiful but will be full of English-speaking tourists in April. If you speak the language maybe you could stay in a nearby city to get a better feel for the country.

If I had 25 days I think I would go to Barcelona, Amsterdam and probably Paris and stay outside the center of the city to save a few euros. Provence is lovely too and there are plenty of English speaking people there. I'd go to Arles (one of my favorites), St. Remy and maybe Cassis on the coast.

As others suggested, get some travel books and videos and see what excites you.

If you are going in April, you might want start in southern Europe Rome?) and finish up in the UK. That way, you will be moving north with the coming of spring. England in April can be iffy - cool and wet.
Of course, if you start off in Rome, you may never leave Italy.
