Does not T-3 mean three people sleep on Artesia night train?

When investigating accommodations for four on the Rome to Paris overnight train, I am given an option to book a T3 sleeper compartment. This is train EN 226, from Termini to Paris Bercy.

There will be my wife and I and our two granddaughters, both teenagers.

If the T3 sleeps three, does this mean one person (guess who) would be left out? If so, where does this person spend the night, since this is an all sleeper train? Is there a single seat in the compartment which does not make up into a sleeper?

While asking the question, how comfortable are sleeper couchettes? Is there much cushion provided for sleeping, or closer to being like a thin cot?

Thanks.

these trains also have T-4s or four-person compartments but a T-3 has only three beds and i don't think they will let another person above the three share it unless the child is under 4 and does not occupy their own berth.

There are single compartments but these are very pricey.

If i understand you you put in 4 people and they gave you a T-3 option? Seems impossible but...

Did you input three females and one male? That will get you a T3 - it's the gender-separation thang. But you can change it in the selector, at least at http://www.italiarail.com. You can always contact them:

The T-4 'couchette sleeper' gives you a bunk bed, blanket, sheet and pillow - couchettes a bit better shape on this 'Hotel Train' than on other overnight trains i think.
