Does anyone have a 'file' on Rome?

In 2001, [email protected] e-mailed me her wonderful file (90 pp.) on Paris and surrounding areas full of valuable websites and information. She also mentioned that she has a file on Rome where I am going in 3 weeks but her e-mail address is no longer good. Does anyone know her or have a similar file?

I don't know how often she updates it, but write to me, and I will provide elaine's current e-mail address.

A pox on "bronxzilla" and other Fodors management for having banned her, not just once but twice, and having made her lose all interest in coming back.

Best wishes,

Rex

Rex - I was wondering what happened to Elaine. I always found her to be so helpful with whatever questions I, or anyone else, had. Always willing to share her files with us.

Thanks! Got it and pulled some good info from the 103 pages. Am wondering though how current some of it is especially the restaurant reviews and recommendations.

Hi

My wife and I went to Rome in July last year and I have posted a trip report with pictures, links, restaurant reviews etc on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm . Maybe you can find some useful information there

I_am_kane,

I will see you soon in Rome! We will be there for too short a visit, but I will ask for you at the hotel. I haven't forgotten. I hope I find you.

If I'm not being too nosy, why or how does someone get banned?

You offend the judge. And there is no jury. Nor statutes.

I was banned for being to provocative in answer to another who was banned at the same time for his "provocative" post
as was my friend thin. But Elaine-I don't remember anything she said, maybe was testy but nothing offensive?

Hi Marianna,

Nor did I forget about meeting you! Here's my schedule: Arriving Rome/Albergo Cesari on Thursday, 6/29 about 1:00 p.m., (four nights) departing Rome on Monday, 7/3 early in the morning.

Do you want to correspond off this forum?

which is the best place on Fodors to look for information on when people are traveling and where get-togethers might happen? Is there a sort of central clearing house on these?

I think that those who organize them are typically very motivated to get the word out over this forum, with postings clearly stating the time and place. Would you like to see a get-together in a particular area of the country? Then we need to get the discussion off of this thread, and to a new posting that mentions "call for get-together(s)" in the message header.

Which reminds me - - we need to start thinking about the "Third Annual IN/KY/OH get-together" - - anyone want to take the bait? I am intensely booked up through almost all of the summer.

Maybe better start looking at fall calendars soon (and yes, this ought to be on a separate posting).

I_am_kane, I just read this tonight. It seems we will cross paths in Rome. I thought you would return for one night on the 6th or 7th. Since I have no other way of contacting you right now, I am posting here. I will try to contact you - I remember the town. If you remember my town and name, there are only a few of us with that name here - call and leave a message. The post we exchanged this info on is no longer around.

A long time poster named Patrick was banned for correcting some damaging totally wrong statements about a restaurant and their wine list. Patrick quoted the restaurant manager with the correct information. Editor Peter told Patrick that was the total reason he was banned -- that "correcting" another poster is the same as calling them a liar. There is a theory that the poster who posted the wrong information and was "corrected" was either Peter under an alias or else a good friend of his. Go figure.

The Albergo Cesari is closed for renovations until November and has cancelled the reservations of many who had booked there.

just a follow up on the Albergo Cesari.
I was looking into staying there well after November, but don't like the sound of their cancelling reservations.
Are they making alternate arrangments for their guests? Was this circumstances beyond their control, etc?
