Documents for code shared Delta/AF Atlanta-Paris flight?

For a July Paris flight on American Airlines, they used the Verifly app: download vaccination card and a couple of other things in advance, get pre-approval, and simply show the code at check in. Excellent system.

Now I'm on a code shared Delta/Air France flight in late September. I have of course applied for the French health pass and gotten the automated reply - nothing else yet, but with a month still before the flight, I had not really expected anything yet. Does anyone know if these folks use something like the Verifly app, or another, or if the health pass confirmation is sufficient? Any experiences would be welcome. Thanks.

Mike, we are on a similar flight for Nov so following. Where did you apply for the French health pass? It has been a pain getting our seats straight. Delta to NY and Air France to Paris but Delta coming home. He used points and chase travel. Big mistake. Thanks as we have not had this info in any emails.

The online procedure for the health pass is now well defined; here's what I have from a French news site I subscribe to:

France has extended its health passport scheme so it will be required to access a number of everyday venues including cafés, trains and tourist sites - so is it possible to use an American vaccination certificate to access this?The health passport is required in France to access venues including swimming pools, cinemas and tourist sites, bars, cafés, shopping malls and long-distance train or bus travel.

READ ALSO When, where and why you need a health passport in France

If you were vaccinated in France it is pretty simple to load your vaccination certificate onto the health passport app – here’s how. If you were vaccinated in a non-EU country other than the USA, click here.

But what about those vaccinated in the USA, either tourists or French nationals or residents who got their vaccinations while in the US?

People vaccinated in the EU have compatible vaccination certificates, while for those in England and Wales the NHS app is compatible with the French health passport app.

But for those vaccinated in the USA things are a little more complicated, especially as many states do not issue vaccination certificates with QR codes.

However, it’s not an impossible problem.

For entry into France, showing a US vaccination certificate – either on paper or in a digital format – is sufficient if you are ‘fully vaccinated’.

In travel terms that means you have had a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson) are at least two weeks after your second dose (or four weeks if you had the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine).

The US is currently on France’s green list, meaning that if you are fully vaccinated you won’t need a Covid test.

Once you are in France, you will need to show the health passport – showing either proof of vaccination, a recent negative Covid test or recent recovery from Covid – to access a number of leisure or cultural venues.

Initially, Americans were told to take their US vaccination certificates to a pharmacy in French, where staff could convert the code into a French one that would be compatible with the app.

While many readers of the Local reported doing this successfully, others were told that it was not possible to convert certificates, or simply that the pharmacist didn’t know what they were talking about.

On August 9th, the day the health passports was extended to take in bars, cafés and long-distance trains, tourism minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne announced a new system.

Anyone already in France or who is booked to arrive before August 15th can email a dedicated address which will send out a French QR code that can be used to access the health passport.

In order to receive a French certificate, you need to prepare the following documents in PDF, JPG or PNG format:
  • A vaccination certificate, demonstrating full vaccination
  • A valid passport
  • Return airline tickets
  • The application form which is available HERE
For United States nationals, applications should be send to: [email protected]

Applicants are instructed to use the following format for the e-mail subject line: COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE / SURNAME First name (e.g.: USA / DUPONT Jean).

“As soon as the application has been processed, the QR code will be sent by e-mail,” the ministry states. “The code can then be printed out and presented on paper or electronically and will have no expiry date.”

The conditions for this are the same as for entry – you must be fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency and the system is initially open only to over 18s. Those aged 12-17 will need a health pass from September 30th.

READ ALSO How unvaccinated people can use the French health passport

The Local has asked the Foreign Ministry what the protocol will be for people booked to arrive after August 15th.

French citizens living abroad and their partners are also now able to exchange proof of vaccination for a French certificate which can be scanned into the health pass. All they need to do is email proof of vaccination, ID, and proof they live abroad.

Talks are ongoing between the EU and USA on harmonising the technology to allow various countries’ apps to scan non-EU certificates.

When you are unsure of which airline is operating a codeshare long haul flight, if the flight number is 2 or 3 digits, it is operated by the airline generating the flight number (such as DL12 or AF 123). If the flight number has four digits, it is operated by the other airline.

Thank you for this information. I am trying to fill out the form online, but the email address section isn't working properly. Is it possible to simply fill out the form and take a jpeg picture to submit? Also, I have the travel confirmation from Delta, but won't be able to check in until August 25 (trip is August 26). Is a jpeg picture of the email confirmation from the airline enough? I am fully vaccinated.

Semimike, Thank you so much for taking the time to post all of that great info. I know someone that lives in Paris and only got their pass last week after trying at many places. Hoping this works. Thank you again.

Daffodildeb, are you sure you are filling the form out ok? When you look at it online, the areas that you can fill are shaded slightly. For some reason, the email line isn't "live" until the second line, so you have to type in that shaded part for it to work.

Also, I'm not sure what you want to take a JPG picture of, but of course it is ok for what you must attach, the directions say JPG and PDFs are acceptable (and PNG whatever that is). Of course you have to read the instructions which are not part of the form. Nobody has paper airline tickets anymore much, so I think a copy of your confirmation email would be fine. I mean, I don't know what else you could do. The instructions are on the govt website though, seeAfin de bénéficier de ce dispositif, les personnes qui en font la demande devront transmettre par courriel les pièces suivantes : (au format pdf, jpg ou png) :
  • le certificat de vaccination établi selon les règles de leur pays de résidence, démontrant un schéma vaccinal complet avec un vaccin reconnu par l’AEM ou équivalent ;
  • un passeport en cours de validité ;
  • les billets d’avion (aller-retour) ;
  • le formulaire de demande téléchargeable sur le site France Diplomatie et sur les sites des ambassades et consulats.

Thank you, Christina. The email line has only a very small shaded portion, and the computer wants to make the printed email address microscopic. Not sure how it would print out, but it displays as unreadable. Can't I just print everything on the form and then send it as a jpeg?

Yes. It says that right in the instructions Christina posted above: pdf, jpg or png. I had a combination of those in my email.

SemiMike, sorry we hijacked the post. Do you have to fill out all the info now required for both airlines? I got a list of everything for Virgin Atlantic if flying into UK from them yesterday. About the same but the pass is important for the train and then we have to do a locater for Belgium and summit via email.

Well, on the code share, the Delta flights are inside the US, so masking only required. For Air France, I have my CDC vax card in digital form for travel, and have applied for the French health pass - and since the flight is not until September 24, I certainly hope to have the pass by then. Just started another thread on this subject to see how electronic pass submissions are going for others.

FYI, the email address for the Pass Sanitaire is NOT working as of August 26. Messages with the required documents in jpeg format are bouncing back from [email protected]. Leaving today, will just have to take my chances at a pharmacy..

The links to the new online system, effective 8/27. I think you may have to reapply:

As before, there is a file size limit. If you are using your camera to take pictures of documents, often the default settings will results in a file too large.

Adobe offers a simple and free online jpg to pdf converter which can greatly reduce the file size without loss of information - it worked for me on the camera picture of my CDC card.

So, what about those of us who are already IN the EU? No effect?
