I haven't received any such e-mail (nor any check yet either). It's been 20 business days since the deadline (as of today), though not 20 days since we flew.

Fascinating reading (mostly all water under the bridge at this point) on http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=429706

Thanks to Flyboy for this...

See http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34635973 for context of why this (seemingly closed) story is still alive.

I just finished reading it too, and looked at other postings. I had never heard of mileage runs!

I was figuring on seeing someone post about getting their rebate check soom. I got an e-mail from Carol of RFD yesterday (she says 2nd request, but I have no 1st request as far as I know) for a receipt. Pretty easy to generate electronically for her, and I e-mailed it right back to her. She says that three batches of checks went out this past week, and that they are anxious to get "all the Paris rebates" completed.

A chapter they are eager to close, no doubt!

Finally... finally... finally...

... we got our rebate check from Rockford Airport, exactly as the program explained we would.

In a way, I haven't been terribly distressed about it, because we got an e-mail on 6/22, saying our rebate had been approved and sent to the finance department on 6/20 (prehaps they only cut checks on the 15th and the 1st).

Still, it's been a little bt unnerving.

Now, I can finally tally up the expenses of our whirlwind, and lay out how well we did (or didn't) hit our goal of "50 (euros) a day" (per person for lodging, and three meals). And that will be (more than) a little bit artificial since I don't mean for it to include transportation (transatlantic or intra-Europe) or shopping.

But still, I can finally face a spreadsheet of what our actual expenses were - - without the lump in my throat of thinking that our "bargain" $299 airfares cost (temporarily) over $1200!

Oh, and I forgot to say... one last time... thank you so very, very much, pj...

(and eager to hear how your communications with Northwest are going!)

Two late follow-ups on this... first (and I will follow-up by separate e-mail to pj) - - but to those of you who remember pj's nightmare trip to Paris (delays, lost luggage, you name it) - - the final settlement with NW turned out pretty good.

But the more pertinent matter is that Rockford is once playing "spin the bottle" and offering a fairly good deal that likely can't be reproduced from Chicago-land or other midwest airports.

Book between Sep 23 and Sep 30, and fly before Nov 18 - - and a variety of NWA cities are but 1 get 1 free - - includes Tokyo, and not sure what other Asian cities. Might not include any europe cities, but if you want to check, e-mail me, or take a look at fylrfd.com (not sure if it is posted there or not).

RFD-Tokyo can be had for $797 in October - - not bad for two people!

Best wishes,

Rex

Does NW actually <i>operate</i> the flight(s) all the way to CapeTown? (it may not count if it's a code share KLM?) I mentioned Tokyo (and, I think, other Asia destinations?) because I'm pretty sure that you can get there on (an) actual NW flight(s) all the way (clearly it must be true on the DTW-NRT nonstop).

Anything in Africa would be a partner airline, rather than Northwest. In Asia, Northwest has a much more significant presence (remember Northwest Orient?). Here's a link to cities served by actual Northwest flights in Asia (red squares):

Personally, I'm taking the $200 rebate deal and heading back to Paris because it's a great opportunity to meet up with some people who are already booked. Thanks for bringing up the hot tip because I would have missed this one!
