Jazzyred, tracking daily expenditures would spoil the fun! Instead here's what we do.

In advance, during the planning stage, I research what approximate meal and snack costs are, museums entry fees, etc. You can use guidebooks and also ask on fodors to do this. Then write down an overall budget ahead of time, for the entire trip cost. ROUND EVERYTHING UP! Write down prices of everything you will need and make the budget generous.

Then, look at your overall trip cost. Can you afford it? If so, go ahead and don't count any daily expenses, because since you've already budgeted generously, you will actually end up spending less than you "budgeted"

Or maybe you'll decide in advance you can't afford this overall trip cost? Instead of resorting to daily skimping, just cut down on your trip...spend less days, or change one hotel to a cheaper one.

The idea is to be able to let go and have fun once you get there, and not to have to worry about whether you are going to break the budget with another glass of wine!

Enjoy!

I think I should start keeping a daily track of my spending when I am HOME. Then maybe I would have more money for trips!

no I don't, I'm afraid, and I usually blow all estimates anyway.
