Do you know these hotels in Italy?
My husband and I will be traveling to Italy this September and will be staying at the following hotels: Hotel Kette, Venice; Hotel Corona D'Italia, Florence; and Hotel Bettoja Nord, Rome. Although all the hotels have their own websites, I would appreciate any of your comments/thoughts/information, especially if you have stayed there. Thanks in advace!

I have read mostly all positive posts about the Kette. I tried to stay there in Feb98 but it was booked (Carnavale) and stayed at the Ala. I plan on visiting Venice next Feb and my 1st choice will be the Flora and my 2nd choice the Kette. I stayed at the Nord for 4/5nights in 98 also. It is a very nice, clean, modern 3* hotel and I had no complaints. I would best describe it as a businessman-type of hotel, modern, functional, everything you need but just not a romantic-quaint type of hotel. I was going to stay there again last Nov but the off-season rates went up and I stayed at a 2* close-by. The area is very safe and the hotel is ~250m West of Termini and the 2 Metro lines which makes getting around alot easier. The area isn't romantic or quaint
but very practical for getting around via Metro, bus and any train daytrips. When going to the Metro from the hotel, turn right outside of the hotel and then take your 1st left (Via D'Azeglio), at the next corner (Via G. Giolatti) on the right is a wide covered sidewalk. Buy your Metro/bus tickets (newspaper, guidebooks, tobacco, candy etc
at the 1st Kiosk on the corner, it's run by a father/son and the son speaks English. In '96 I was fumbling with my phrase book because I wanted to buy a 1-day Metro pass when the son said "Good Morning, can I help you" so I've been buying my Metro tickets and stuff there ever since
). Also if you have to buy any tourist souvenirs I've found that the gift shops in Termini have the best prices. HTH Regards, Walter
Good afternoon Lorna
Have not personally stayed at the Hotel
Corona d'Italia, however my daughter and
her husband spent about five days there
last year as part of the Italia Florence
package. There were very satisified with it. It has a very good location
close to the Medici Chapel and the
Mercato Centrale, which you should not
miss. Have not stayed at the Kette
but it is in a very good location about
1 1/2 blocks west of the Pza S. Marco
and just off in a small calle which is
not as heavily traveled and noisy as the
Calle Larga XXII Marzo, S. Marco.
We used the HOTEL DO POZZI and tho we
stayed there a number of times, would
consider it noisy, all night lone...
Richard of La Grange Park, Il...
Hi Lorna,

We love the Kette. Have stayed there three times and will be there again in September. Quiet location, good restaurants nearby, ample breakfast every morning, large marble bathrooms, etc. Maybe we'll see you there in September! Enjoy your trip.

Lorna,

My fiance and I got engaged in Venice last summer. We stayed at a little hotel on the Grand Canal. It was simple, but extremely nice, and the owners were very friendly but not too friendly as to invade our personal space! I am at work, and cannot remember the name of hand, but it is in Rick Steve's book, and I will look it up and email it to you. It was about $80.00/night for two people w/ breakfast. I thought it was worth it. There was also a cool Jazz bar right by the hotel that was great for a late night snack, and a casual night out. I will include that info too if interested.
