The main reason I am traveling with my own pillow is so I DON'T have to use the ones supplied by the airlines. After reading that they aren't sanitized after each flight made me wonder who might have done what to those pillows so I definitely don't want them next to my face!!

I used to use the inflatable kind of pillow, but the shape wasn't really right. In lieu of the buckwheat pillow, I bought a fleece covered 'travel pillow' from the car section of my local Target store. It is shaped better than the inflatable pillows, almost a full circle, with a cutout for the neck, rather than a sort of squared off "c' like the inflatables and is just stuffed with fiberfill. Cost $10, and while it certainly takes up more space than the inflatable, it was well worth it to me --much more comfortable. Can also be compressed for packing using the old 'ziploc bag' method

The buckwheat pillows are distinctly non-compressible, bulky, and relatively heavy. I use mine in the car sometimes, but not on the plane. An inflatable pillow works reasonably well, as does a folded airline pillow. My husband's shoulder makes a great pillow.

If travelling to Europe a regular travel pillow would suffice. Now if you'd travel to 3rd world countries then I'd advise to get a buckwheat one. Why? Just to bring a supply of food without declaring it. And if you ate your pillow a rolled-up sweater will work just fine.

I have a Bucky too with a matching eye shade in leopard. I probably look like an idiot but they are so comfortable. The only problem is carrying the stupid pillow around when you aren't on the plane. I love the buckwheat but I wish I could deflate it between flights.

We have used the inflatable models in the past, they can be adjusted easily and they work well.

Elvira, I have one of the neckbrace type of pillows, and I love it. Had never been able to sleep on planes until I bought this little item. I know it really looks dumb, but it keeps your head from flopping in any direction. It's really very comfortable.
