Do and Co. is known for its catering, food services.
Several airlines use their services. They cater special events also.
Fewer know that they own Demels , Cafe Griensteidl and others.
The hotel a " side business "
The Hotel itself is in a perfect location in the center of Vienna- just across the Stepansplatz from the cathedral.
The modern style building was not purpose built as a hotel.
It houses varies shops and offices.
The hotel and restaurant came later as the building was less than successful in its early years. Thus the building was not purpose built for a hotel. Some rooms reflect this.
Today, Do and Co there is better known for its bar and restaurant to locals.
All things are located on the upper floors of the building - reception etc. is on the 6th floor- thus all access via elevator.
I have never stayed there , but have been to the rooms with business associates staying there and used bar and restaurant.
Some rooms with great views toward the Cathdral- others to the back no real view.
Some rooms nearer bar and restaurant can be noisy at night with the bar having a good crowd until later in the evening 2 AM ?
Rooms in a modern style, all amenities. Nicely done.
If you look for a classic Vienna style - this is not the place.
When the hotel first opened , service was not that great.
Guests had no preference for bar seating or restaurant use .
Front desk , sometimes chaotic.
This has now improved.
For city center location it is perfect, but one must realize it is located in a pedestrian zone - by the corner of Graben and Karntnerstrasse - UBahn station for U-1 and U-3 just below.
Most sights within easy walking distance. Major shopping nearby.
It just depends on what a guest wishes for a hotel.

Hello Cathinjoetown
Yes, the hotels you mention are very close together.
Do and Co is in the Haas Haus - this the modern looking building with the reflective glass on the corner of Graben and Kohlmarkt - the edge of Stephansplatz.
It you stand with your back to the main entrance door to Stephansdom , the cathedral- Haas Haus is to your left - then moving right a small pedestrian street-Jasomingottstrasse ( sp ? ) then several buildings to the Hotel Stephansplatz on the next corner by Brandstatte( street name )
the entire distance between these places perhaps 75- 90 meters.
The Hotel Stephansplatz probably has better views of the square and Cathedral in my opinion.
Easy access to the Ubahn 1 and 3 just below. Bus 1A and 2 A at the corner.
But little need for these as you know with so much close by for sightseeing, shopping and dining.
The hotel entrance just around the corner from the square.
Just my opinion
Do and Co is a restaurant /bar with hotel rooms.
Stephansplatz is a hotel with a bar and restaurant.
Also overall probably better value too.
The rooms nicely decorated in modern style but by no means luxurious but still very good.

Molkar ... Thanks for all the information. Sounds like a good location & a lively hotel. I will be traveling with my sister & we wanted something modern rather than the Bristol or Imperial (which are very nice) Do you know the Das Triest Hotel ? If so, what do you think ? Thanks again

I think that Das Triest is a fine small hotel.
Nicely designed with an inner courtyard, good bar and restaurant.
The building was not purposely built to be this hotel but was renovated 15- 20 years ago modern design style and well done in my opinion.
It is slightly out of the city center on a major street with numerous shops and restaurants nearby.
But you can easily walk into city center , and to the State Opera and Musikverein.
Perhaps due to its quiet location relatively " off the beaten track " it does not get the raves it deserves or perhaps those staying there like to keep it less well known.

Molker ... I am back. Can't seem to decide on our hotel in Vienna. So I thought I would ask you if you could stay at ANY hotel in Vienna, which one would you choose ?? I don't mean to put you on the spot, but I thought your answer would be interesting. We are also going to Prague & staying at The Augustine. In Budapest, we are staying at the Four Seasons. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Firstly Budapest -
previously in Budapest I always stayed at the Kempinski - no river view but central for me.
The choice also due to being a former Kempinski Private Concierge guest that offered many discounts and upgrades.
They have now changed this progrsam joining a consortium of other hotels and the new frequent guest program is not as good as before.
If in Budapest now - I would stay at the Four Seasons - fine standard.
Cannot comment on Prague-
In Vienna.
Many factors -
I wait to see the new Shangri- La Hotel to open - this supposedly in this summer.
Fine location on the Ringsrtrasse and I like their style in general - never unhappy with their hotels and a good loyalty program - Golden Circle-
Often opening reduced rates.
Palais Schwarzenberg - this has been in renovation for several years - supposedly to open in 2011 but ? to be a 6 star hotel.
The owner has the Grand and Ring hotels with excelent style and service.
The Schwarzenberg - special to me as I often dined there years ago in their wintergarten - with fine views and service.
If these were open , I would choose one of these.
Of course this in the future.
Now, I enjoy the Grand Hotel - perfect location- on the Ring - classic style- close by to the Bristol- nicely decorated rooms and I have always seen the service to be excelent from housekeeping to front deask.
Added things there - some nice music to add to the atmosphere and easy direct access to the Galerie Shopping Center without a need to go outside - even with a good supermarket in the lower level for special snacks and more.
Many years ago when not living in Vienna , I would stay at the Konig von Ungarn- fine location by Stephansdom - nice atrium public area to have a drink.
At that time a fine restaurant -Don Pedros .
Don Pedro long gone- many rooms re decorated in a style that is not for me and the front desk staff has become less than great .
They are eager to sell tours, event tickets, transfers at inflated prices to unsuspecting tourists Ifyou do not need these things - tendency to ignore you.
Just my opinion.
If looking for added things like spa/wellness I wold pick the Ring Hotel- sister to the Grand just across the Ring but a different style.
In the end , everyone likes something different - the above my biased opinion.
Should add - I am not in the hotel or and related travel business-

We enjoyed our first and only visit to Konig von Ungarn (amazing location behind Stephansdom and next to the Mozart House in the medieval streets. I agree with the post above that says they like to sell tours at the desk, but did not feel it was a major factor there. The atrium is charming and the breakfasts and breakfast room sensational.
