Dining with a Toddler--Budapest, Vienna and Prague
We will be traveling with our 2 year old to Budapest, Vienna and Prague. (No comments about the sanity of this endeavor, please.) Looking for advice about dining out with a child. Are there certain types of restaurants that are more child friendly or specific recommendations we should seek out?

Last Xmas we visited Vienna & Prague w/ a 2 & a 4 year old. I found restaurants in Vienna to be a bit more challenging than in Prague - guess maybe the whole city has a more 'upmarket' feel?? My husband & I are big proponents of the 'stick your head in the door & get a feel as to whether kids are welcome/suited' to a place. I must admit, I broke my cardinal rule in Vienna - I caved & we had lunch @ Burger King. Upside - the most gorgeous BK in the world and my kids were in heaven. Def. got some goodwill out of that one. Upside of dining w/ a toddler is that usually they need to eat a little earlier than most, so often we had restaurants entirely to ourself. That immensely eases the stress. Don't remember seeing a highchair anywhere in either city - not sure if that is an issue or not.
We are currently living in Europe for a few years during a work assignment for my husband. Dream location re: travel, but awful ages when it comes to the kids. But, successful travel w/ a toddler is not a fantasy - it just takes a different level of planning and expectation. Good luck & enjoy.

My favourite restaurant in Praha is David in Mala Strana. The food is simply fabulous, sweetie darling, without being pretentious. You can visit their website.

Ask them if you can bring your snapper with you.

I second the recommendation for the Restaurant David in Prague. Fantastic food, but when I was there, it definitely seemed to be more of a grown-up place. Definitely go early if you have kids. For an inexpensive meal in Prague, try the Kavarna Slavia (I think that means Cafe Slavia) near the National Theater. It has sandwiches, salads, etc.

In Vienna, it might be fun to go the restaurants in the Grinzing area. It would be about a 15min. tram ride from downtown, and although these are "wine" restaurants there is usually music and a casual atmosphere....ie. it would be ok for the kids to get up from the table, etc.

When are you going? Because Prague has lots of outdoor cafe-type restaurants in the summer in the general area around Old Town square, and it would be pretty easy to do that there. A lot of them are pretty casual.
Prague has a lot of Italian restaurants for some reason, and I can recommend Pizzeria Rugantino at Dusni 4, just a block or two off the main square, as a good place that would be fine with kids. They even have a website to give you an idea, if you go to the gallery and the Dusni location, you can see what it looks like. Their food is pretty good.
