Not sure why this was topped. It being August and not Christmas... <BR> <BR>But it was fun re reading it and only yesterday I laughed muchly watching this Friends episode about Pottery Barn, Rachel buys loads of stuff there for Phoebe's flat, but Phoebe doesnt like PB so Rachel has to pretend the Apothecary table is from a flea market... <BR> <BR>Sounds like I would like Pottery Barn, though I definitely have no where to put a 4 foot high Eiffel Tower!

Hi Kavey:<BR><BR>Your August 19th post seems to be there now (my birthday incidentally)and "freakily" your new post is 12/19 which was my mother's birthday. <BR><BR>We're not giving any travel gifts, but did bring gifts back from France this year which we will be giving. Also had a wonderful surprise on December 1st. Our family gave my husband and I a dual birthday party (his birthday is 12/28), and in lieu of gifts enclosed money with their cards to be used on our return to Italy next May. There was lots of wonderful food and plenty of wine. In addition to the usual birthday greetings, the cake had an Italian flag on it. The party was great and very festive with our nephew's house decorated for Christmas. What a terrific sort of pre-Christmas present! <BR><BR>j

A couple of GREAT travel books!<BR><BR>For any wine-lovers (oenophiles?) who are also travel-lovers, the new edition of the World Atlas of Wine, by Hugh Johnson, is wonderful. Detailed maps of all regions of the world where wine is produced, with information on the major producers, varietals, etc. Anyone planning to tour the wine regions of France, Italy, California, Australia, etc. would LOVE this book! If "they" are deleting "topper" posts, it must be an uncommon occurrence. Plenty of recently (and not so recently) topped posts still have their "topper" posts.<BR><BR>I do think that in the course of maintaining the database (if and when they do that any more), "they" delete (or simply lose?) certain posts that defy explanation.<BR>

I told my in-laws that I wanted a new Italy travel guide...so they gave me "Italy for Dummies" (no joke). I wonder what message they are trying to send?<BR><BR>In truth, they could not have chosen a worst guide for us. The guide is great for major Italian tourist sights (Rome, Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre and Amalfi) and goes into great detail on those. But we are planning on visiting smaller towns - like Orvieto, Gubbio and Montepulciano, and these smaller towns are completely ignored! I guess it's my fault for not being more specific.<BR><BR>Any one knows if I can exchange an unused "Italy for Dummies" to my local B&N without a receipt?

Just got around to checking in - Happy Holidays to all.<BR>I received from my Husband the Fodors guide to Provence - sadly no airline tickets fell out of it. I also received a Paris calendar with great color photos of Paris from my secret Santa at work.

I didn't get anything directly travel related, but I did get some software for upgrading my travel photography Web site. I have read good things about PhotoImpact 7 as a Web oriented image editing program, and my Wife gave me FrontPage for the Web development part. I have read mixed reviews on that one, but it is fairly standard, has a lot of capability, is much like other Office programs, and the Web guys at work use it (for help when I need it).
