We're ready to buy the PREM tickets for my parents now but I could use a little advice on the different options. They need to go from Paris to Perigueux on May 14. StCirq, you mentioned that they will stop in Limoges, which I see but do they actually need to get off and change trains? There is also one that stops in Poitiers AND Limoges and the timeframe seems good, however I doubt they will want to change trains twice. If you have any more insight I would appreciate it! Thanks!

The change of trains in Limoges is usually a no-brainer. Either the train stops and they disengage part of the train and the shorter part continues on south or they have to cross the tracks and get on another train heading south, which takes about 3 minutes.

Almost done planning my parents' trip and I need some advice, yet again! My parents have one extra day/night after they check out of their rental house, before they fly out of Bordeaux the next day at 2:00PM. They will already have spent 4 weeks based in Limeuil and will need to return their rental car at the airport before they depart. Since they will have an early start from Limeuil, they will have the rest of the day and night as well as the first part of the following day before their flight, they may not necessarily need to stay at an airport hotel. Should they consider a hotel in Bordeaux or somewhere between Limeuil and the Bordeaux airport? I would love some recommendations! Thanks so much!

Oh! One more thing! Since they have all day to drive to Merignac, would you recommend that they take the river route past Bergerac and the D936 and possibly overnight somewhere along the way, rather than make the journey on the A89 and stay closer to Merignac or Bordeaux?

I would recommend they take the river route, but I also would recommend that they go through/past Bordeaux and spend the last night on the coast near Arcachon or Cap Ferret - for a complete change of scenery. It's an easy jaunt from there back to Mérignac airport.

Once you get about 15K east of Bergerac, the river road is not that scenic all the way to Bordeaux, IMO. I would stop in St Emilion on the way to the Bordeaux airport. It is almost directly on the river road - so no extra driving, If you have my Dordogne itinerary, there is a little info in there about St Emilion.

As they are staying for a month in Limeuil (we stayed there a couple of years ago - lovely little town and beautiful area) if there is someplace they want to visit that looks to be a bit further than they can handle in a daytrip, there is always the option of packing an overnight bag and finding a room for a stay at that location. We did that a couple times last fall when we were based for a month in SW France. We just stopped at the tourist office for some recommendations as they often have up-to-date vacancies for short notice visitors. That's an option that one is less likely to consider when only based someplace for a week or two.

Thank you all again! I'll look into hotels in St Emilion and the coast as well. I'll run it by them and see what interests them most. We may even leave this one for them to find on their own while they are there.
