Decisions, Decisions, I can't decide
I am going to Europe for the first time and I can not decide whether I want to go to Madrid or Rome. I have heard great things about both and am curious about the responses back on who liked what in each country. I checked prices in both countries and Spain seems to be less expensive than Italy. But there really is no expense spared where fun is involved. I am going to meet my boyfriend halfway after not seeing him for six months. Which would be a better place for couples?

Venice! Venice! Venice! I can think of nothing more romantic after a 6 mo. separation!

Yes, Spain is much cheaper than Italy, but probably for a first timer, Italy is better. you don't say how old you are and what you really want out of this though.

Hi Amy! Both Madrid and Rome are great places to visit. They are both vibrant cities and offer great food, good museums, outdoor cafes... Any reason why you have picked those two cities, out of so many in Europe? I guess I personally find Rome more romantic than Madrid because of the time and history element "the eternal city." I think a visit to ancient villas, like Adrian's villa would be romantic, in a different kind of way (you look at the ruined columns staring at the cypresses embracing each other). Also, the area around the Pantheon in Rome can be very romantic - sit in a cafe outside looking at Italian lovers walking by...

However, I personally find southern Spain more romantic than Madrid (the Andalucian white towns; the beautiful moorish stories). I also find Venice more romantic than Rome.

I did find that Spain was a bit cheaper than Italy, if that winds up being a factor. I hate to be cliche, but how about Paris? Whatever you decide, have a great time!

If I could only go to 1 place in my whole life, it would be Rome. Everyone should see it at least once. The 1st time we went we had planned on 3 weeks in Italy but never left Rome. HOWEVER< Venice sounds good too. As you said, decisions, decisions??Venice in the fall or winter sounds much more romantic to me, I want to see the light and the mists, and no tourists!
