I, too, would vote for Angers, with Rouen a close second. The château at Angers with its tapestries, followed by a visit to the Jean Lurçat museum to see his take on an interpretation of them was one of the highlights of a trip to the Loire a few years ago. And Angers is a wonderful walking city, with a large pedestrian zone and the beautiful gardens that have been mentioned. There are 46 beautiful half-timbered houses in the town, the best of which is the Maison d'Adam on the Place ste-Croix, and the La Doutre neighborhood on the right bank of the Marne is well worth a stroll to admire the restored old trade quarter. There's a good Musée des Beaux Arts, too, and if you like sculpture, don't miss the Galerie David d'Angers. The upstairs dining room of the restaurant Le Toussaint on the place Kennedy has good views over the château and a great menu.

Re post by Robespierre--

Chantilly is easy by train. There is a bus at the north end of the station that stops near the chateau on the way to Senlis, a cute town that can be combined with the visit.

My wife and I will be in Paris for a week beginning Nov. 10 after a week in London. We have been using Earl Steinbicker's books since discovering the first in 1995. We've found the series to provide most of the relevant information for us to make a decision.

We are considering Chantilly for a trip but can't find that the racecourse will have a meet at the right time.

In researching Chantilly, we did find a wonderful two week tours for racing fans at http://www.racing-europe.com/index1.htm. The trips include days at Ascot, Newmarket, Chantilly and Longchamp. Unfortunately, a bit above my budget but I can still dream.

The stables in Chantilly, near the race track, are spectacular.....really a horse museum now.

Rouen, Honfleur, Chartres.
I'd like to go back to Chartres to visit the Picassiette House.
