And isn't Schwangau so lovely - most folks trekking like lemmings to Newuschwanstein and back from train station never see it - again for others with more time and in warmer seasons Schwangau makes a great base for a few days - especially for folks who like to hike.

PalenQ--We are big hikers (DH and DS are serious mountain climbers as well), so I would love to know about the hiking in this area! We are already talking about going back

Well thanks for thanks and you just can't go wrong no matter what day trips you end up taking - all mentioned here are superb and easily done.

As they say in German: Have a "Gute Fahrt" or good ride or journey!
