Day trips from Frankfurt

I'm going to Frankfurt with my husband (on business). I'll be looking for things to do during the day while he's working. I'll be there 3 days. Any suggestions for day trips would be helpful.
Thanks.

Pam: Take a train from Frankfurt to Koblenz, and then come back via KD Rhine Line. The cruise is free if you have a Eurailpass.

The section of Rhine between Koblenz and Mainz is among the most photographed in the world--scores of castles, steep vineyards and picturesque towns. It would be a great one-day getaway for you, and very inexpensive.

Heidelberg would make a good day trip. So would Rothenburg. And Wiesbaden is only 30 miles away. The Rhine cruise is a good suggestion. If you like to shop, Wiesbaden offers a lot. Have a good trip. Jinx Hoover

Check out www.frankfurt.de and see if they are having any markets or special events that you would be interested in during whatever time period you will be in town. As for shopping, there is a long strip of clothing shops right near the marktplatz and dozens of misc. stores everywhere and a mall (the Hessen Center) out by the eissportshalle which is totally like any american mall but still a nice way to pass time if it's raining. You'll be travelling by train? I would go to Heidelberg, the castle is neat and I love going to the Kathe Wolfahrte christmas store by the marktplatz. Aschaffenberg would also be a nice place to pass a few hours of the day by yourself, lots of shops and the burg is really nice too. Wurzburg is fun, the Residenz there is remarkable. I don't know if you can get to Gelnhausen by train but it's altstadt is nice to walk around and it's a rather small town. Mainz has some good shops and museums. There are so many options!!!

The suggestions you've already received are good, check out Heidleberg Castle and the "Big Barrel." lol I don't know if you're fluent in german, but it was my experience, every time I attempted to speak in german, whoever I was speaking too always answered me in english. Have a wonderful time.
