Ideas for overnight near Frankfurt?

I'll land in Frankfurt a few days before a meeting and would appreciate your suggestions for a brief trip beforehand away from the major cities. Thanks!

The Rhine Valley is less than an hour away. Lots of hilltop castles, vineyards and historic towns. It's classic Germany.

In your position I would base myself in Frankfurt and do day trips out from there.

Possible destinations within an hour's train ride are Würzburg (picturesque town), Marburg (University town), Heidelberg, Mainz, Bonn, Koblenz.

Or if you just want scenery and local colour then, as suggested, any little town along the Rhine valley between Mainz and Koblenz, such as Bingen or Bacharach or Oberwesel or Boppard would get you in the right frame of mind for a heavy meeting.

Mainz is only 45 minutes from the airport. It's a charming town, and the historic district is a pedestrian zone. We stayed in the Hilton right on the river. It was wonderful. Be sure to check out the Gutenberg Bible.
