Thanks for all the feedback...We are still very torn about what to do....I don't think we will be hiring a private/guide and driver....We may just do a day trip to Siena only and save the Chianti region for the next trip when we focus on Tuscany. So much to see and do in so little time!

kleinjk: You will love Siena and you can easily take a bus there from Florence. Don't worry about what you see or don't see. If you miss something, something else that is wonderful will pop up in its place. Enjoy the planning... and your trip.

We did the same - spent a day in Siena during a trip to Florence - went and came by bus, just 45 mins, very convenient and enjoyed the country side en route. LOVED Siena - spent the entire day wandering around the city on foot - admiring the architecture and colour...ENJOY

Thanks for the reply...That settles it...we are going to Siena and going to enjoy our full day there. I am over thinking and trying to cram too much into one day!
Did you just take a local bus? or do a tour thing?

I want to recommend an excellent private tour guide.I used Alessandro Cammilli for my tour when I was in Florence and he was wonderful.We went to Lucca, Portovenere and Cinque Terre, southern Tuscany(Pienza is a lovely town)and the Chianti region.He was always on time, very prompt driver and he was very good at recommending places to see and restaurants.Before of our trip, he helped me plan our day based on our preferences.We found his prices very reasonable.Touring with Mr.Cammilli it is like to have a friend happy to show you around.He can be reached at [email protected]

Hello-
My boyfriend and I will be traveling thru Italy at the end of May and we'd really like to stay in San Gimignano. We have already found a hostel but are kind of confused as to how we will get there. We are getting a eurorail pass, but when we look online at the places the train goes we can't find PoggioBonsi or San Gimignano anywhere. Does the train actually go to these places or does a bus have to be taken? We are planning on coming from Rome into San Gimignano.
