I've read postings from several people who've taken the Atlas day excursions from Dubrovnik to Montenegro. Has anyone taken one of the Atlas daytrips to Mostar in Bosnia? We are going to Croatia in August and are considering whether or not this would be a good use of a day (we are only in Croatia for a week). Any input would be greatly appreciated -- many thanks!

Have you seen Eurotraveler's trip report on Dubrovnik? She talks about a trip to Mostar. It sounded really interesting.

I only took the one to Montenegro (I highly recommend it) and the wine tour of the Peljesec (sp?) Peninsula (also recommended). If you're there for a week, I think getting away for a day or two is fine. You return early enough to wander down to the old town and enjoy your evening there.

Hi Winter, did you search for my post as Grasshopper suggested? I found Mostar fascinating due to the history of the city. It is obvious that it was a beautiful city before the war. There are signs of destruction everywhere you look. As I wandered through the cemetery in town, tears welled up in my eyes as I read the headstones. The majority of them are from the young who died in 1993. Many of the headstones have a photo of the person buried there. It is a very moving experience. The river is a gorgeous blue/green. Unfortunately the bridge wasn't due to open for three more weeks when we visited in early June but it should be open now. IMHO, it is worth the trip if you will be there for a week. Don't miss the EAST/WEST Beach bar in Dubrovnik!

Eurotraveller, did you take the Atlas day trip or go on your own? More information on the logistics would be very helpful. Many thanks in advance for any additional info!

We took a bus to Cavtat, about a 30 minute ride. It's a small little village with cafes lining the waterfront,very pretty. The restaurant right across from the bus terminal is very good. It has indoor/outdoor seating, but the inside is really lovely. The house wine is great. It's their specialty.
We also spent a day on Lokum, an island across from the old city. You get a boat from the old city harbor and you can easily spend a half day walking around Lokum. You might want to pack a special picnic lunch.
I'm ready to go back.

We did take the Atlas tour and I think the cost was 42 Euro. There are pick up locations just about everywhere. We were staying in a great apartment just a couple of blocks inside the Pile Gate and the bus picked us up just outside the gate. The pick up time was 7:30 and we were dropped off at 6:30. Our guide on the bus was great! Unfortunately we had a new guide when we were in Mostar and he didin't seem to know the answers to many of our questions. I spent a lot of time listening to other guides who were nearby. There is an Atlas agency just outside the Pile Gate and there is also one at the east end of the Stradun on the right as you head east. I am working on putting captions on some photos and I will post that link later today so watch for it. There are several pictures of Mostar. Cheers!
