day trips from barcelona

we will be in barcelona for 4 days in April. We have access to a car and would love input for day trips from Barcelona. We could do 2 separate trips out of the city.

Hi Missy,
We'll be there in April too and plan to spend 5 days on trips nearby (staying in Paradores). Besides Monteserrat, we plan to go to Girona, Figueres to Theatro Dali, and the Roman ruins in
Empuries. You might goggle these places and see if they appeal to you.

I just took a day trip to Valls, which was really fun (to eat calçots. . . not in season in April, which is a pity), but if you have a car and want to do 2 separate trips, I recommend going to Figueres to the Dalí museum, and then continuing on to Cadaqués to see his home (the ride is curvy for that one. . . potential need for Dramamine). The second trip could be something closer. . . I find Montserrat overrated, but Girona is amazing and one of my favorite places to visit.

If you do go to Montserrat I recommend you visit the art gallery.

Tim and Liz,

What's there to see in Cardona besides the parador which looks amazing (where we're staying)? I've read some guidebooks, but nothing really seems to stand out.

Artlover--

There isn't much around Cardona. I would only stay there for one night, or maybe two. There is a salt mine tour, but it was closed when we were there for the Christmas holiday. We spent a day walking all around the Parador and ruins, and spending time in the chapel. We had a lovely time there.
