Day trips around Obidos

Hi! I am travelling with my husband, parents, and 4 year old ( so 4 adults, one kid) in early-mid April. After a few nights in Lisbon we are picking up a car and going exploring a bit further afield. We have two nights in Obidos, and a third night back in Lisbon before we fly out to Spain, so about 3 days. We were thinking one day to drive up there and explore Obidos ( any side trips we should make here?), a day trip to Nazare, and then maybe driving down to Evora and then back up to Lisbon all in one day? Is that worth it? Or is there somewhere closer we should check out for that day instead? We are waking up in Obidos and going to sleep in Lisbon on that third day. Thanks!

I would warn you that Obidos is tourist central. OK for a couple of hours, but I would not want to use it as a base. If you have a car you might consider Evora instead. But how many days in Lisbon?

Our accommodation is booked already so we cannot change it. We have 3 days in Lisbon - we are travelling with a 4 year old so we will not be visiting many museums and such on this trip!

Hi, I'm from Lisbon,
I'm not sure if i'm understanding you itinerary, how many nights will you be in Lisbon?
Then, 2 nights in Óbidos, what is the objective?
Óbidos is not that far from Lisbon, only a 1 hour drive far away. You said you have 2 nights in Óbidos. Well, then you have lots to see around the region. 1/2 days is enough for Óbidos it's a very small medieval village, very beautiful though. Close to Óbidos is Peniche, a fishing village. From there you can do a boat trip to the wild islands of Berlengas, a nature reserve. Also close to Óbidos it's the famous Óbidos Lagoon and a big sandy beach, a little further north there's the beach village of Nazaré and the world biggest waves. For a cultural trip, you have the Alcobaça Monastery, in Alcobaça, world heritage site, The Battle Monastery, in Batalha, also a world heritage site and Tomar with it's magnificent Knights Templar Castle, again a world heritage site. I think you should stay in Leiria witch is the center of the region, not in Óbidos. Has i said, Óbidos is very close to Lisbon and can be done has a day trip. Also in the Leiria Region you'll find the world famous pilgrim site of Fátima. All these places are north of Lisbon, Évora will be south, very different but also very beautiful and also world heritage. You can do a day trip to Évora from Lisbon, it's only 1,5 hours away

I agree with the other poster. Obidos is very small - you can see it all in a couple of hours. Consider staying in Nazaré and doing a day trip to Obidos instead - your four year old will thank you! The churches in Batalha and Alcabaca are well worth a look - but again, not much of interest to your little one. Nazaré has a beautiful beach and a small water park which would be more fun.

Thank you for the suggestions! Do you know if boats from Peniche to Berlengas run in early April?

Hi,
Its possible to visit the Berlengas island all year round but you'll have less options. During the summer times there're big boats that do the trip. For the rest of the year only small boats, and it depends of the water conditions. Peniche sea can be very rough.
