Day trip to Bath/Stonehenge

Is it better, if pressed for time, to take this daytrip with a tour from London or to take a train from london to someplace nearer these sights? Thanks in advance for any info, thereyet

I would say take a day trip from London if you're pressed for time (only time I would recommend this), there's not much else around Stonehenge and it is a bit of a distance between Bath and there, especially if you're trying to organise public transport to get between the both, so go on a tour, and although you may feel more pressured and not able to "explore" at your leisure, at least you will be guaranteed to see everything. The tour may spend more time at Bath, but at least you get to see Stonehenge and it really is amazing. Although a bit disappointing if you think you are going to be able to walk up to the stones, like you used to. Still, all very much worth it. Take a trip, saves you missing anything important.

We just came back from a Stonehenge- Bath tour with Anderson Tours. It was very easy and convenient, they had central pick up points throughtout London. You spend 45 minutes at Stonehenge, then about 31/2 hours at Bath. With all the admissions included, it was 39 pounds. I couldn't find public transportation that was less expensive than that.

I persoanlly hate day coach tours, and I would rather spend an entire day in Bath on my own over a guided tour that dashes to Stonehenge and barely gets you 3 hours in Bath.

That being said, if your time is really limited and can do it for £39, that's fine. Many of the day tours out of London run 2 to 3 times that and are waaaaay too expensive IMHO

After plotting some things on a calender and looking at how fast our time in London is going to go, I am starting to think a day trip is not worth the time and effort not to mention the money. The good thing is after visiting London we will move on to No. Spain! As I read somewhere else on Fodors I should not think of this trip as my last one to the UK and all will be good next time. Here I go already planning my next after next trip. I need to take two tylanol and call the Dr. in the morning. thereyet
