day trip paris to a charming village - need ideas
I've done al the regular day trips from Paris. Does anyone have any suggestions for a day train trip to a charming, village, low stress, nice scenery, perhaps a minor tourist attraction, maybe a great place for lunch????

Try Reims! Great little town and you can tour some champagne caves. We went to Taittinger. I think there is also a beautiful cathedral as well as a few museums. Here is a website to check out. Enjoy!

No doubt, Bourges is sensational and a nice town. Chartres, of course you know of - it's closer than Bourges.
On the subject of great cathedrals, I'll add Amiens, Beauvais, Laon and Reims - all near Paris. Others to consider: St Denis, Soissons, and Noyon.

All the places mentioned in above posts are hardly the charming village of your dreams, but large conurbations. St. Denis is one of the ugliest industrial areas of Paris - a decrepeit depressed dreary area surrounds the historic cathedral. Bourges and Reims, though lovely places with famed cathedrals well worth the trip, are especially large conurbations. Yes Giverny, and Auvers-sur-Oise (search for recent post "Auvers-sur-Oise"
are truly dreamy villages close to Paris - about an hour by rail; though not low-tourist they are still the quintessential lost-in-time French villages redolent of the France of old; truly beautiful places, where even if you don't care about their assocations with Monet and van Gogh respectively are great day trips. (Giverny three miles from the Vernon train station; mini-buses or taxis from the station)
