. Does this schedule give me enough time?>

well check the mini-bus schedules and pick ups - if they leave noon or after yes because the Bayeux train station is about a 15-minute walk from the town center. And last time I was there there was an excursion office right next to the train station.

So yes would be my answer and coming back fine too. A lot of those trains have a flat fare meaning with a ticket you can ride any train of the same type - so you could come back later than 6:53 if need be - but ask at stations about that - most of these trains do not demand seat reservations before boarding I believe but just a valid ticket for that type of train, most of which if not all do not demand seat reservations though you can make then optionally.

It's very, very easy to navigate. It's all along the coast. You don't even need a very good map to see the main sights (but I always have one anyway).

Given that your Dad participated you might find that you want more than one day. An overnight, at least, would be nice. That will give you a good chunk of both days if you take the early train up and the late train back. It's not light as late in September though... If it were June you'd be doing very well because it's light past 10 PM. Although you'd have a lot of tourist traffic, too, this June...
