Day cruises from Genoa?
My husband and I are going on a 20 day visit to Italy in mid-June/early July this coming year. We have 3/4 of our trip planned, but have one five day chunk left to plan. We fly into Rome (we'll spend four days there), then have the undesignated chunk of time, then go to Bologna and then to Venice. We were thinking about Genoa and some day trips from there as an alternative to Cinque Terra. Are there boating/touring companies you might recommend for a day cruise (or two)?? We'd prefer to be on the water as opposed to driving from place to place. Thanks in advance for your help!

I am curious how you chose Genoa. I have been to Genoa, but I had specific objectives that could not be met elsewhere. I would not chose Genoa as somewhere just to spend five days given the places you have mentioned you have visited so far in Italy in your other threads.
In case you have not thought about it, weather impacts traveling over water more than over land. If the sea gets too rough for enjoyable trips, what will you do in Genoa?

Thanks michelhuebeli for your links-I had visited two of the three before, the the one I had not looks like what I was searching for.
greg-I guess I want to be on the water for part of our trip, and have sort of crossed Cinque Terra off the list after reading about it (both pros & cons). Not certain we would spend 5 days in Genoa-contemplating (still early) renting a car and spending a night or two in different places en route to Genoa, so really only having three days there (with at least a day checking out other places along the coast). If you were in our shoes, how would you spend those five post-Rome days?? Thanks for your thoughts!!

You don't mention what it is you have against the Cinque Terre, but there are plenty of other places in that region that most people would prefer over Genoa. I've only passed through it, but I did some research on it as I thought I might be interested in a day trip there but decided it really didn't sound like the kind of place I'd want to spend much time (and I love cities). Last year I spent 5 days based in Ravello and on another trip I based in Camogli and those are both nice towns, with several boat trip options. Granted most people want to see the CT towns (and I did as well - but I'm also glad I didn't stay in one of them, much preferring the two larger towns I have stayed in). I did a boat trip down to Portovenere and it was fabulous.

If you like boat travel, you could check the ferries from Civitavecchia (port of Rome) to Olbia (Sardinia) and from there to either Livorno or Genoa. There are not only night ferries, but others during the day too. Those of Moby lines are the most comfortbable one's.
