Date in Rome, Italy - Please Help

Hi everybody,

I am going on a honeymoon in July 2012 and one of the stops is going to be in Rome. My fiancee and I are flying in on the 21st around 4:00pm (from Barcelona) and departing on a cruise the 22nd at 5:00pm from Civitavecchia. After the cruise, we will be back in Rome for 2 days/nights.

We plan on seeing as much of the tourist destination type stuff as possible - so no help needed on that, per se. However, my fiancee's birthday is on the 22nd. I want to plan a surprise date for her on either the night of the 21st or when we get back from the cruise and am having trouble finding just the right thing.

I want to do something fun/special/romanting/unforgettable for her birthday so any kind fo creative fun ideas you all can provide would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Since weather is unpredictable, whatever you plan for July 21 in Rome, please remember that it could thunderstorm or it could be faint-inducingly hot. So you want something a bit weather-proof, yes?

You don't say what sort of thing interests your fiance. Does she like dancing? Would she enjoy a special meal? (Fish? Vegatarian? Pizza?) A rooftop cocktail?

Rome is extremely beautiful at night, with all the monuments lit up, and if it were me, I would enjoy a taxi tour of the city after dark, maybe topped off by an informal pizza meal at an outdoor space, and a nightcap at a rooftop bar, and a romantic stroll back to the hotel. (I'm assuming you can sleep in the next morning.) If it is raining cats and dogs, you can move the meal indoors, but the taxi ride would be pretty even in the rain and they sell umbrelas everywhere in Rome so you could still enjoy the stroll.

I'm not recommending these people because I know absolutely NOTHING about them, but I am giving you this link to show you what I was referring to. There are probably many other companies and drivers just like this with competitive prices, and you can probably track down client reviews on the web in places like Tripadvisor.

Renting bicycles and taking a ride through the Borghese Gardens would be a very fun thing to do. This park is my favourite place in all of Rome.

Afterward, you could have a meal in the VERY BEAUTIFUL garden cafe of the Hotel de Russie. Molto Expensive, but an absolutely unforgetable experience.

Tschuss,
Pepper

Zeppole - thanks so much for the ideas/advice. The website looks very intruiging and I'll definitely take a look at some reviews for that and a few other companies. I love the idea of a tax tour after dark! My fiancee loves dancing! Any ideas of a good place to go to have some fun for a cocktail/dancing?

Pepper - Your idea also sounds quite wonderful. I've heard great things about the Borghese Gardens and will definitely look into this!

Thanks for your input!!
