Darmstadt - Art Nouveau Museum and Architecture

If I am in Mainz this winter I'd like to take a half day or so to go to Darmstadt, mainly to see its musueum of German Jugendstil(I'd love to see the Adam & Eve statues at the entrance!). I'd also like to take a walk through the neighborhood with the Hochzeitsturm building. I know Darmstadt is not a usual "tourist" destination, but I'd love to hear from Fodorites who have seen the above sites - any impressions welcome.

On a related subject, has anyone taken the bus connection from Darmstadt to the Frankfurt airport? Comments?

Thanks.

I did a week in Darmsadt, I ended up taking the train to Frankfurt almost everyday. I didn't make it to that museum. I don't speak a word of german, I got around alright, but found museums dull since I couldn't read any of the placards.

Frankly, Darmsadt is pretty much an industrial town-american military base, Merck (sp?) headquaters and plants, etc. I loved it since it was my first trip to europe and i just absorbed the differences, but I don't think I'd bother again.

Don't know anything about the bus, is it cheaper than the s-bahn?

dovima- if you are really into Jugendstil you will definitely enjoy Darmstadt - especially the Mathildenhoehe where the Artist Colony is located. In addition to the museum and the statues you mentioned and the Wedding Tower make sure to see the Russian Chapel and the numerous private homes all in Jugendstil. There is also a large complex by Hendertwasser you might be interested in.
I have not taken the bus but it leaves from the main train station every 30 minutes and goes directly to the airport. Travel time is only 24 minutes. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you both very much!
It's been difficult to find information on Darmstadt, so I appreciate your replies.
