Dalhouse Castle in Edinburgh

Has anyone stayed in Dalhousie Castle? We're first timers and want a "castle" experience. We're arriving by train. How do we get there? Taxi?
Any help would be appreciated.
Dennis,

Is it the same as the Dalmahoy resort owned by Marriott? It is an old English manor house and it was very good.

If that is not the place...sorry.

I was married at Dalhousie Castle in August 2001. For most of our trip we stayed in Edinburgh so we would be near all the sights, but we did stay at Dalhousie for two nights. We loved it. We really felt like we were in another world during our stay, and didn't want to leave.

The castle itself looks like something from a storybook -- even better in person than in the photographs I saw on the web. It is surrounded by beautiful green countryside, even though it is just 20-30 minutes from Edinburgh.

We stayed in a themed suite called the Robert the Bruce room. Very elegantly furnished, clean, spacious and comfortable. It also had a wonderful view. There are several themed suites, named for various famous historic figures, and I believe most of these suites are above 200 pounds per night. There are also many "normal" rooms that are more reasonable in price.

The public rooms, such as the Library, are charming. The restaurant, which looks like a dungeon, was very good and romantic in its atmposphere.

We took a taxi there from Edinburgh's center...I really can't remember the cost, but I'm thinking it was around 15 pounds.

My recommendation would be to stay within Edinburgh for most of your stay so that you will be in walking distance to the sights (especially if you don't plan to rent a car). Then stay at Dalhousie your last night or the last two nights for a relaxing experience away from the city.
