Daily Cappadocia Tour from Istanbul

My friend and I are going to be in Istanbul in early October. I know this is not the best scenario but we only have a few days and she would like to spend most of them in Istanbul. Istanbul is one of my favorite cities but I'd really like to go down to Cappadocia at least for a day.

Backpacker's Travel has a daily Cappadocia Tour from Istanbul. Has anyone done this tour? Although it is doable, if you have done the tour, could you let me know if it is worth the brevity as well as the effort to try to get to Cappadocia even for one day?

Thanks in advance.
Deb

Hi Deb, I haven't been to Cappadocia but it is on my bucket list. We visited Istanbul and Ephesus about 5 yrs. ago on a cruise. I organized private tours to Ephesus and 2 day tours in Istanbul as our ship was docked overnight. I did a lot of research prior to our cruise and narrowed my tour guide to Kagan Kosagan. Kagan is an amazing guide, extremely knowledge of Turkey (he lives in Istanbul) and he went over and above to provide us w/ 3 amazing tours. I cannot speak highly enough about Kagan. I emailed him more times that he probably wanted me to, but he made many suggestions for our tours to maximize the time we had to tour. Everyone in our group raved about Kagan and said the tours were the best they had ever been on. Please feel free to contact Kagan and ask him for suggestions as to what you can do in the time frame you will have in Turkey! He does do tours of Cappadocia so can tell you what is doable. I know you would be pleased w/ Kagan. His website: http://www.tourguidesinturkey.com/
His email: [email protected] - -or - - [email protected]

Good luck. You can tell him that Mary Z referred you and says Hi!

I've used Kagan and would agree he is a very good guide, however, I wouldn't contact him for sightseeing outside Istanbul as he sub contracts to other companies. There are many tour companies in Cappadocia, and I'd contact these companies directly. If interested in a day tour you will need to check flight schedules to either Kayseri or Nevshir, these are the two airports in the region. Choose your tour carefully as the different sights in the region are spread out. Your time in the region is short, you need to plan this carefully. Personally if it were me, I would not go to the region on a day trip, I'd spend at least two nights in the region.

That is quite a schlep for the day and Cappadocia is worth three days on its own.

Adu, time is relative, age is not relative, being a schlep is forever.

RJames' post and recommendationis excellent.

fly yourself. Prefer Nevsehir if schedule is fine because it is closer to Goreme-Urgup than Kayseri. Check for local tour operators (possibly on Trip Advisor or Lonely Planet). Carefully select what interests you most. (I suggest that you forget about the underground cities which are just tunnels requiring good imagination). And arrange a private tour with your requirements and supervision.
