Czech Towns by train?

I am posting this message for Julie. I have been to the towns she asks about, but, I did it by car. So, I can't help her. Also, add Trebon, Trebor, others of interest in the area.
Julie's email to me:
Thanks for your recommendations on Telc and Kutna Hora. Is it easy to get to all these little places by train from Cesky Krumlov or will we need to connect through Ceske Budejovice to get to them? Appreciate any info/experience you can share on this. A bit apprehensive about train travel in a country where the language is so different from any I'm used to. Thanks

From Cesky Krumlov you would have to connect at Ceske Budejovice or even Prague for almost anywhere by train because it is not located on a main train line, although I think because of its popularity as a tourist attraction there may be a few direct trains from Prague now, although I'm not sure. Kutna Hora is I believe east of Prague and is easily reached from there, but I doubt you could get there directly from south Bohemia. Not all of these trains run from the main station in Prague either. Quite a few originate from Masarykovo or Holesovice station. I believe the Kutna Hora trains run from Masarykovo, for example.

There are not usually announcements for the stations on domestic trains, so unless your destination is the last stop or some obviously larger town, you need to pay attention to the stops. Signs are clearly posted at each station however.

Sometimes there will be an announcement in Czech that people going to x stations need to move to the front three cars or some such thing as that, so be alert for that too.

For Julie. Trebon, Telc, and Kutna Hora are on railways, but trains and (I think) busses from Cesky Krumlov run only to Ceske Budejovice (CB), whence trains and busses run in many directions. As a result, I think you?d do better to stay your nights in Cesky Krumlov, but then move to Ceske Budejovice as a tour base. The bus and railway stations are just by a two star hotel at 30 euros a night, the Grand, or the Ceske Budejovice tourist office on the great main square can brief you on B & B.

Now to detail. C B to Trebon an hour by bus
C B to Jindrichuv Hradec an hour by train, then a bus another hour to Trebon
C B to Kutna Hora is a rushed day trip, as your train route lies via Prague. No need to worry over stations in Prague. From C B trains run into Prague Hlavni (beware pickpockets), and many trains for Kutna Hora start at Prague Hlavni. Your best bet might be C B 0757, Prague Hlavni 0951 to 0958 Kutna Hora 1109

Well dressed young people tend to speak English, and have always helped me at ticket office queues. If you can buy the Czech rail timetable on arrival you?ll find that to travel with that is to know what?s going on.

Please write if I can help further.

Ben Haines, London
Thanks for your very helpful replies. Looks like train travel in Czech Republic takes just about as much nerve as driving. We'll just have to be on our toes.
