cycling flanders in march
I am hoping to spend three weeks in Brugge in March. I am also hoping to spend a good deal of that time cycling the area. I am not worried about the cold, I cycle in Calgary for most of the winter but don't enjoy relentless teeming rain. It sounds like one should expect rain almost daily. My question is: is it constant almost 24-7 and should I just call the whole thing off and go somewhere else?

I've checked the weather history for the last 7 years. In all these years the max. number of rainy days in March was 18 in 2001, followed by 15 days in 1999. Average is 10 days. It hardly rains constant 24/7, the rain usually comes in showers although there may be a few days of non stop rain. So hard to predict!
Fact is that Brugge and the coast have less rainy days than the rest of Belgium.

Agree with previous poster.
In case you don't have these in Calgary, all bicycle shops sell rain capes which cover you completely. If thy were brown, you would look like a cycling monk, but they are mostly yellow, for security reasons.
A very good idea to cyle in West-Flanders. I have done it a lot when I was young and still living in Brugge.

Calgary, I live in Belgium, and have noted the weather forecasts on the internet often predict rain every day. This is absolutely not the case. March can have beautiful sunny days, but it is impossible to say what the weather will be like that month. It is extremely unlikely that you will get rain every day. And cycling is very good in flanders.
