Customs 101 - for French students

Our visiting students are returning to France Sunday. They are not sure about the US departure procedures - as I look at the US site I can not make it out either. Besides returning their arrival/departure form I-94, what else should they do? Is there a declaration? Thanks so much.

No the airline will collect the form i believe as the case with my French son when he returned so many times before he had his U.S. passport.

It's been several years now since my son got his U.S. passport so things have changed perhaps but all he did was check-in at airline and return form to them. I'd call the airline 800 number and ask the question.

To say there are no customs formalities leaving the U.S. is correct yet there are spot checks as boarding.

Recnetly as i went to board the plane, in the gangway were Customs officers with dogs, searching for undeclared cash i believe - if you take more than $10,000 out of the U.S. then you must make a customs declaration to that effect.

Hopefully none of your students has ten grand or more on them?

The airline will collect the I-94 at the boarding gate. When they arrive in France they just go through the green channel.

After passing through French immigration & collecting their luggage - assuming they don't have anything to declare
