Currency in Poland ????

Hi, Has Poland started using the Euro yet? If not, does anyone know when they will be switching over?

Thanks, Lisa

As of July, they were still using the zloty. I believe that there is a financial requirement (pertaining to inflation, perhaps?) that must be met before the euro is able to be used.

Poland wants to use Euro by 2008, but there's no agreement yet. From what I'm reading, 2010 the earliest.

Hi Zippy, Poland still uses the zloty. Note that you would not be able to change your currency into zloty at any hotel. You will have to go to their national bank. That's my experience as of May/June 2005. Twelve months earlier I was able to change US dollars and euros at hotels. So, please check this out before your trip. Happy travels!

Why don't you just use the ATMs and then apply any leftover zloty to your hotel bill?

The best way to get zloty is to use ATM's...they work perfectly no hassle whatsoever.

The second best way to get zloty in Poland is to see the best way above.

Every city and airport has private currency exchange businesses. They are called, Kantor. Rates are posted as buy and sell. Buying zlotych today will cost .023% from the 'center' rate. Airport and hotel rates are high compared to street outlets. ATM machines are ubiquitous. Current use fee for a debit/check withdrawal is $1.50. Many banks have ATM machines inside. Euro? No one knows when or if it will happen. Some businesses are using Euros as well as dollars and PLNs/zloty.

ATM fees are set by your bank..not the Polish bank...Cirrus and Plus regulations do not permit banks to charge a fee to you if you use their ATM's...only your bank can charge a fee and there are many who charge the proper fee for having the audacity to access your money namely nothing.
