Yes it does 'worth' a visit.

Depends on how quick or slow you walk to be honest. It is a moor, remember and so you're basically walking around a big field reading the odd cairn here or there. The visitors centre is worth it, too.

Its an important place in the history of Scotland. There is a small museum and they show a film which explains what happened. The battlefield itself is interesting. It has cairns dedicated to the various clans that fought there. If you're interested in history, it is well worth the stop.

We got a great feel for the history behind the battle and the thousands who after the loss left for American. My family came to the James River Valley after the loss at Culloden. Interesting sight was the cairn telling of the brave men who died for Scotland who are buried here. Then a little sign that says the English are buried over there.

Must agree with Tony and Dan. It's worth a visit, especially if you know anything about Scottish/English history during this time.

I fully agree with the above post... We drove up, just as it started to rain, one March morning.. no one else was around, we had a great martial pipes CD on the sterio... oh yes, there are ghosts there.. The visitor's center is interesting with lots of collector's books.. if you are a Scottish History buff, I don't think you should miss this site.

It's a good idea to read up on the history before you go. It's easy to get the Hollywood version if you're not careful.
Have a look at http://www.queenofscots.co.uk/culloden/cullch1.html

It was not English versus Scots. It was English plus their Scottish allies versus the Young Pretender and his allies. There were even some highlanders who did not support him.
The Duke of Cumberland was actually the cousin of Charles. As so often on these occasions the great folk make war and the common people suffer.

You got another one wrong Uncle Sam (like the two countries separated by a single language quote), it was weeks later he dressed as a maid. Maybe you should quit spouting history until you read up a little more.

Patricia: Yes, it is worth a visit. Tour the field, visit the center, take in the old farmer's dwelling adjacent. And, while you are in the area, by all means, go to Pluscarden Abbey for one of the most beautiful spots in all of Scotland. It isn't very far. Near Elgin. Have a great trip.
