I haven't been in these but am planning to try them during my trip at the end of May. Maybe this list will help you too.

www.taverna.hu ( hit restaurants, and the Matthias basement restaurant has music and traditional food)

Thank you so much. I'm glad I checked back to see if there had been a response. We leave for Budapest on Saturday!

O.K. here's what she said; well known one is called ALLABARDOSZ. She didn't have the address but said it's on the Buda side and your hotel should be able to give you the street address. You could also google it. traditional gypsy music and meal. Have fun

The names and websites were very helpful. gregeva1, I hope you have a great trip in May. That should be a perfect time of year to go. Of course one should always take a mother's (or an aunt's)advice, so thank you laartista. Time for me to start packing while I pray for a sudden rise in the temperature in Budapest!

Katt58, did you go to a Csarda dinner while you were in Budapest? If so, where did you go and did you enjoy it? We will be in Budapest in June and I'd love to hear about your experiences!
Thanks.

The Allabardos website looks great! I'll be in Budapest in September, and this looks like a great place for dinner!

Thanks for the recommendation.
