Crowne Plaza Amsterdam - The American?
Anyone who can give me some info about this hotel. Have allredy booked it for a weekend in late May, but I cancel my reservation if I get some better alternatives.
Should I stay or should I go somewhere else...

The location is great on the busy Leidseplein. There is lots to see and do nearby. I stayed there a few years ago when it was owned by the Intercontinental chain. I thought it was plain and simple but not above average. A lot may have changed since then under new owners. Did you know that Mata Hari had her wedding reception at the cafe in the hotel?

good choice. should be fine. if you are driving in you should research the parking because amsterdam is crazy with bikers and there is very little street parking without a permit. but there are car parks around for about 25 euro a day.

You have 3 or 4 choices to get between Schiphol and the CP American, with the trade-offs being time/convenience/money. In no particular order:
Taxi - the most convenient and quickest (even at peak hour); this will cost about €40-50.
Train + taxi - Take the train to Centraal Station (about €4), then a taxi to the hotel (about €8-12). The train is extremely easy and well marked. If you have heavy luggage, you will have to carry them down a flight of stairs at Centraal.
Train + tram - Train to Centraal + tram to Leidseplein. (Buy a strip for the tram from a news shop at the airport.) This is the very cheapest way to do it, but the tram can be inconvenient if you have bulky luggage. Not recommended if it's your 1st time in AMS.
KLM bus - The KLM bus (available to all regardless of airline flown) goes from AMS to a dozen or more hotels. The cost is reasonable (about €10-12, I think), but it can take a monumentally long time of your hotel is one of the last stops.

The Cafe Americain, on the ground floor, gets our vote for one of the most beautiful rooms in Europe. Sort of a hybrid between art nouveau and art deco, it's a wonderful place to sit and look at the rain outside if that's your fate. Fabulous place.

I just returned from Amsterdam yesterday and stopped by the American for coffee. IMHO the American doesn't compare to the Pulitzer where I stayed. The Pulitzer is on a beautiful canal in the "Canal Belt" and is within walking distance of everything. Got a very good deal thru Starwood by prepaying 21 days in advance. You should also take a look at the Canal House as well.
