What time of year will you be traveling? If it is during the summer, then I would suggest Southern Dalmatia. Dubrovnik, Korcula, Hvar, & Split are all very nice. If you are coming in the fall, then you may want to consider Istria; it is more Italian in style and there is beautiful countryside.

+1 with Ray, above. Croatia is a good country to wing it with travel, as they have many private rooms (Sobe) available as you roam around. It can get a little hectic in August, as half of Italy seems to empty out and head over there.

I went to Dubrovnik and Split they definatly deserve a couple nights a peace. But i would really recomend going to a couple islands. They are great, fun, relaxing, beautiful places. I went to Hvar, Korcula islands. They are between Split and Dubrovnik, easy to get to by ferry.
