Croatia - Transportation in HVAR

I am traveling to Croatia in early May. I am thinking of spending two days in Split, two days in Hvar, and three days in Dubrovnik with maybe a side trip to an island from Dubrovnik. My problem is transportation on Hvar. I don't want to rent a car. I am thinking of traveling from Sucuraj to Drvenik and then by bus from Drvenik to Dubrovnik. However, I've read that it is difficult to find public transportation from Hvar Town to Sucuraj?? What is the best way to get from Hvar to Dubrovnik in the off-season? thanks!

Going through Sucuraj/Drvenik won't work--not without a huge hassle. I think the only way is to take a ferry from Stari Grad (Hvar) to Dubrovnik. Are the dates not working for doing that? Alternatively, you can return to Split after Hvar and take a bus to Dubrovnik from Split.
Why Sucuraj? (just curious)
You know, when I search at jadrolinija's site, it tells me there are no ferries from SG to Dbv the first 10 days of May. I do not believe that--I think they must have not entered the dates yet. Check it again later--or email them to find out what is going on.

Jadrolinija's doesn't run a ferry from Stari Grad to Dubrovnik till late May. Looking at the map, it seemed that if I could get from Stari Grad to Sucuraj, I could then take a ferry to Drvenik and a bus to Dubrovnik. But it seems like it might be a hassle and I was quoted 100 Euros to take a taxi from Hvar to Sucuraj which is too much money for me.

Do you think it worth going from Split to Hvar for two nights, then back to Split to go to Dubrovnik, or should I go from Split to Korcula for two nights, and then take an early bus to Dubrovnik? Everyone seems to have different opinions on Korcula vs. Hvar.

Gotcha--I have always visited in late May, and I was finding that odd.
I was going to suggest Korcula--isn't there a ferry to Vela Luka? Once there, hop on the bus to Korcula town. The only drawback is the early morning bus departure from Korcula to Dubrovnik. I love Korcula and find that it shares similar attractions with Hvar, in that there is a beautiful old town surrounded by a lovely island. I don't think you will be disappointed at all.

I visited both Hvar and Korcula and enjoyed them both. They seemed to have a different feel to me, with Hvar being more grand (which is not to say better - just different). One day was enough for me to see what I wanted to see in Korcula. If you do decide to go to Korcula, you might want to see if you can time it so that you can see the moresca. If you go to Hvar, you might consider taking the bus to Stari Grad for part of a day.

Going to Croatia at the end of this week and having similar problems trying to create an itinerary for about 8 days flying in and out of Split. We want to see and do a lot but finding it hard without the use of a car.
Did anyone use a website to look up the bus routes and/or fares before they traveled there?

missDIVAstar, it depends on where you want to go. My guidebook probably gave me bus schedule info, but it is fairly easy to wing it if going to the main towns. Some bus schedules can be found online--here are Split and Dubrovnik bus schedule sites:

Feel free to ask more with some details. I always used bus and ferry so I may be able to help.

Did I not see a bus station in Hvar town, just off the town square?

The bus between Hvar town and Stari Grad is quite frequent, but buses all the way to the other end of the island are a mystery to me--despite their reputed existence. Maybe in summer buses are more reliable to Jelsa and further to Sucuraj.
The bus system on Korcula is more extensive in my experience.

Going to Croatia in June and interested in knowing alternatives to go from Hvar to Dubrovnik.
If by ferry, does anyone know how long does the trip take? And is there a need to book it in advance? If yes, any detailed information online anywhere?
Many thanks in advance.

Juliana, you might want to start a fresh thread.
The ferry trip from Stari Grad (Hvar) to Dubrovnik takes about 8 hours. No need to book in advance, and find schedule at
http://www.jadrolinija.hr/default.aspx?lang=2
You can also go to Split and take a 4 hour bus.
